Caring For Wigs

Anyone who buys a wig will need to learn how to care for it properly. By discovering about caring for wigs it should be much easier to make your wig last a longer length of time. Wigs are capable of lasting for many years as long as they are treated with respected and cared for properly.

Washing

Just like your real hair, wigs need to be washed when they are looking dirty. However, unlike your real hair you should only ever consider washing them when you really need to. Wigs cannot grow new hair which means that washing them can cause damage. Only wash them when they actually look dirty as this will prolong the life expectancy of your wig.

You must also be very careful to ensure that you are choosing the right type of shampoo for your wig. This will differ depending on the length of your wig, whether or not it is colored and also the type of hair it’s made from. When caring for wigs, you must understand that both human hair wigs and synthetic wigs are different and need to be treated differently.

Drying

After washing your wig it will be wet. This means that you will need to dry it. Take your time to dry the wig carefully and avoid exposing it to heat. You should not use a hair dryer or put it anywhere too warm as this can make the wig frizzy. This is even more of an issue if you are caring for a synthetic wig.

Storing

Another important aspect when caring for wigs is ensuring that they are stored correctly. Make sure that you always put them back on a polystyrene head as this will hold the shape and make sure they don’t stretch.
