Synthetic Wig Care For Black Women

Your wig is an important investment in your lifestyle. After all, you purchased your wig with a specific look in mind, and if you want to make sure that you are getting all that you can out of your wig you will need to make sure that you are caring for it properly. Synthetic wig care is not that tricky and these hairpieces are fairly low maintenance, but if you fail to keep up with basic care then your wig will begin to deteriorate, losing its attractive luster.

The good news is that synthetic wig care only calls for washing your wig on occasion. The frequency of required washing really depends on your environment- humidity and temperature can really wreak havoc on a wig- but a good rule of thumb is to wash your wig once around every ten times that you wear it. Ultimately you just have to use your judgment; if you think that your wig is starting to show signs of needing to be cleaned, do so. Washing your synthetic wig is simple and easy.

The first thing to do before washing your wig is to use a wig brush to comb through it. Once that is done, follow the instructions on your wig shampoo bottle- generally you will add around one tablespoon of the shampoo into a sink full of cold water. At this point you simply agitate the wig in the water, but be sure not to rub and scrub. After this you will simply rinse the wig clean with cold water and use a towel to blot it dry- again, do not rub the wig. Once this is done, simply hang your wig on a tall, cylindrical object to dry. Spray it with your conditioning spray, style it with your fingers, and allow it to air dry- do not blow dry your wig.
