How Often Do I Wash My Sheital?

If you have a shietel then you will realise what an expensive investment they are. That’s why it’s so important that you care for them properly. If you look after your wig then it’s possible to make it last for a very long time. This means that you don’t need to worry about purchasing another shietel too soon.

When to Wash

How often you wash your sheital is completely up to you. Most people will wash it once every two weeks or so although this will depend. Normally you will wait until it starts to look dirty or feel strange.

Of course you might be able to get away with washing it every few months if you can. You simply need to wash the wig when you think it needs it.

Washing Yourself

You have the option of either washing your sheital at home by yourself, or alternatively taking it to a professional. The choice is up to you. Washing at home will save money, but it’s quite time consuming and can be difficult.

If you want to wash it yourself and it’s made from natural hair then you will be able to use normal shampoo and conditioner. Try to be gentle when washing though.

You will also need to put your shietel somewhere that it will hold its shape properly to ensure that it can be worn ok the next time you put it on.

Your sheitel is a very important part of the Jewish religion and it’s something that you should take seriously.6
