Wig Challenges: Removing Gum And Sticky Food

Cleaning your wig is a time consuming process and something that you need to spend a long time doing. Normally this should be fairly easy, however, if you have any gum or sticky food in your wig then removing it could be very difficult. Gum in particular will stick together the fibers of the wig and make it very complicated to remove.

Washing

The first thing that you can try is washing the wig. This should remove almost all sticky food residue since most food should be soluble in water. The water should dissolve sticky sugars and make it possible to remove the sticky food quite quickly.

Remember to be careful when washing the wig. Although you will need to get all the sticky food out, you also need to be careful not to cause any damage to the wig itself.

Washing will not normally remove chewing gum because this is not soluble. It is a real pain to remove and there are a few options you might want to consider.

Cutting

If the gum is stuck well into a few strands of hair then you might be able to fix it by cutting a few strands of hair. This isn't perfect as you could end up making the wig look terrible if you're not careful.

Freezing

Another possible way that you can remove gum from the wig is by freezing it. If you freeze the affected area of the wig then the gum will become brittle. This should make it possible to hit it with a hammer or hard object to break it. This method will only really work if the gum is stuck into long strands of hair.
